Priyanka Chopra’s uncle and Mannara Chopra’s father, Advocate Raman Rai Handa, passed away at the age of 72 in Delhi.
The Chopra family mourns the loss of Advocate Raman Rai Handa, a valued attorney and cherished family member. He died on June 16, 2025, in Delhi, at age 72.
Raman Rai Handa was a notable advocate practicing in the Delhi High Court and Tis Hazari Court, earning his stamp of approval from critics across the legal profession for his professionalism and gentle nature.
Importantly, he was a loving husband of Kamini Chopra Handa, a jewellery designer, and a dedicated father to two daughters, Mannara Chopra and Mitali Handa.
He also had distinguished family relations, some of which were famous Bollywood actresses, Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti Chopra, so his loss had an echo deeper in the industry than strictly legal profession criticism.
Mannara has shared how, in many ways, she looked up to her cousin Priyanka, inspired by Priyanka’s independence and success in the field of entertainment.
The Handa-Chopra family had such a tight bond, and the Handa and Chopra families shared their celebrations regularly, so this loss is even harder.
Raman was known as the silent strength of his family. Mannara described Raman as the “pillar of strength” in an emotional Instagram announcement when she shared the sad news.
After a short illness, Mr. Handa had become weak in the last couple of days. The cause of death has not been revealed publicly. He died in Delhi, with family around him.
The funeral ceremonies were planned in Mumbai and occurred on June 18, 2025, at the Crematorium Ground located in Amboli, Andheri West. The funeral took place around 1:00 PM, with family and intimate friends being invited.
Raman Rai Handa was recognised not just as a lawyer, but as a principled and caring person. His standing as a legal counsel in the courts of Delhi earned him the respect of his peers. He was a great guide at home, supporting his daughter’s ambitions whether they were in the field of fashion, jewellery design, or acting.
The Chopra and Handa families are committed to relying on each other for solace and strength. Priyanka Chopra, who is currently working abroad, is expected to come back and be with her family during this difficult time.
